The Tourism and Culture Information Centre was established by the Gliwice Self-Goverment and Museum in Gliwice. In 2013, the Centre and other similar facilities in the Silesia were connected in a network, that created the Silesian Tourist Information System (STIS). As a result of this project, the largest regional tourist information network in Poland was established. Thanks to being part of the STIS, the Centres in Gliwice received additional equipment: information kiosks, computers for tourists, Wi-Fi and audioguides. The idea and implementation of the Silesian Tourist Information System came from Śląska Organizacja Turystystyczna and the sub-regional partner is the Metropolitan Association of Upper Silesia. The value of the project was appraised to be PLN 14.5 million, of which 85% constituted the planned European Union funding from the Regional Operational Programme of the Silesia Voivodeship for 2007-2013, the remaining funding was provided by the sub-regional partners.
