Miasto Gliwice - St. Bartholomew’s Church

According to the oldest sources St. Bartholomew’s church and parish were founded ca. 1232. They owe their beginnings probably to the Templar Order which came to Silesia from Moravia. The confirmation of this thesis was to be the Malta Red Cross – a symbol of the Order – constituting a part of the preserved polychrome of the church. The edifice in a gothic style, oriented, surrounded with a stone wall, belongs to a group of the so-called castellated temples, i.e. exhibiting defensive properties and features. It is claimed that the presbytery and the sacristy date back to the 15 ^th century, and the aisle and the tower – to the 17^th century.

At present the church is not open to visitors. However, one can see its interiors taking a Virtual Tour.
